| For those of you who noticed the last couple of Newsletters
were not sent, please forgive me. A group of hurricanes slammed our shores
and we were in the direct path of two of them. As much as I love decor and
beautiful landscaping, I learned that if you came through with family, life,
and limb, you have been blessed. My thoughts are with all of you who suffered
during these difficult storms. As you pick up the pieces and struggle to
return to "normal", here is some food for thought. |
| Decorating; what exactly is it? Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary has
this to define it.
Main Entry: dec·o·rate
Pronunciation: 'de-k&-"rAt
Function: transitive verb
Inflected Form(s): -rat·ed; -rat·ing
Etymology: Latin decoratus, past participle of decorare, from decor-,
decus ornament, honor -- more at DECENT
1 : to add honor to
2 : to furnish with something ornamental <decorate a room>
3 : to award a mark of honor to
synonym see ADORN |
| "Honor"... that word says a lot! We "honor"
our homes by decorating in our own style. Do we actually "honor"
the dwelling itself? No. We "honor" the people who live there
and our guests. Even if the only occupant is you, you decorate to "honor"
yourself with the comfort you need to find peace in your home. It boils
down to making your house a pleasant place to be, for yourself and others.

How you do that can be a very diverse process. Some people
hit the nearest furniture showroom and buy all the matching pieces and call
it done. Some prefer the process of finding varied pieces and accessories
and slowly pulling it all together. Still others will use a mix of old and
new. Whatever you decide, try making the decor personal and welcoming. It
does not matter if you spend thousands or shop the budget stores, you can
have a warm and welcoming home with some hard work and planning. Back to
basics. See...( Basics
of Decorating) Go slowly and make your spaces all yours.
