Home Decorating help via the internet! Before and After PicturesBefore you say that this is impossible to do over the internet, let me explain how easy it really was. Photos of her room were scanned (or could be mailed) to me, giving me the basic project. The young lady wanted certain colors and a "look" which was described to me. I have a toll free number for any questions or conversations we need to have. Once we were clear on the whole project, I gave her the exact magazine to look in, and the ideas for bedding I had. Then I scanned in some more ideas and she made her choice. Step by step instructions were given for the headboard,
etc. Her parents did the actual painting and installation of the chair
rail. The furniture ideas were many, and we settled on some used pieces
painted in a happy and bright palette. Two shopping trips were needed
by her and her Mom, and the rest was done at her leisure. When she
had a question, she called or emailed, and the next thing I knew,
the room was done! It was not only easy, it was fun! And she had the
pleasure of telling her friends she had done it herself!

This pre-teen's room was lacking "punch".
Her Mom requested ideas for her daughter's apple and cobalt color preferences. |

For the client/Do It Yourself er, my suggestions included a new border paper, paint, wainscoting, and some bedding with "pow"! Painted furniture-I gave her instructions on how to make it durable- and some accessories, transformed her room into one with real appeal! Note the huge mirror, expanding the space! |

Here is a dining room makeover. It initially
held a lone china cabinet. Period. We worked on adding a wonderful old
desk, and the hutch. Below is a picture of the client trying out lamps.
We worked on getting the right lamp and mapped out the placement of mirrors
and prints. Next came the accessories and a chair. A process of trial
and moving elements around and we had a very welcoming room! A dining
table and bench seats are on order. They are to scale and will allow gracious
dining. Up lights give this room a warm and cozy feel. It is now both a
dining room and a quiet place to curl up with a good book! Visitors entering
through the foyer have to peek in and smile! A dramatic "before and
after". |

So you can see, this is not only do-able, but enjoyable! The look is the client's own, guided by my suggestions and know how. I can handle multiple projects this way, and still do what I do locally. The toughest thing is getting someone to practice with some faux technique, if they have chosen that! They always seem to want to launch right in, while I insist they practice on poster boards first! These are quick "takes" on before and after Decor Doc. The actual process is more involved but we wanted you to see the results. Watch for upcoming step by step pictures on how a Decor Doc is done! It's fun! |

Living room transformed. Below are two views of the old LR on the left. Nice but dated. |

On the right are the new pictures of the two LR views. The sofa was reupholstered in a gorgeous red, chairs rearranged into a more friendly place to chat, new accessories and ruby red lamps, wonderful new art, and the result is a great new updated Living Room! The new window treatments are not showing here, but turned out well. |
A beautiful bedspread was the inspiration for this Master Bedroom. Deep wall color and a hand made wall hanging doing double duty as a headboard made this very striking! The addition of a hanging mirror puts "pow" into the mix. Just tug on the large tassels and summon the servants! Note the "Books" tissue holder! Little touches mean a lot. |

A Family Room. A decent start but it lacked a pulled together look. With an Entertainment Center along one wall, chairs that did not match, and a computer in the opposite corner, it really needed some help. Reupholstering the chairs was a good start. From a pink shade to an elegant stripe, they now make a nice statement. By the client emailing pics of all her decorative goodies, we reworked the shelves to show off her favorite pieces. A room screen to hide the computer, new pillows, lots of greens, and fresh paint helped! A sofa table was added, something the client had wanted for a long time. Also we added art, and new window treatments. Now that wonderful sofa shows off! |
A Guest Room. Using mostly what the client already had, we reworked, painted, and found some wonderful fabrics to create this welcoming room. Note the old cedar chest now painted and graced with a window seat cushion and new bun feet. Lower left in the After picture. |
